Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Johannes Traub to our offset printing department for the print approval of his book Zwischenwesen.<\/p>\n\n

An overview of the artist and his book<\/h2>\n\n

Johannes Traub studied at the Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle and is one of the most prominent representatives of contemporary art. His book “Zwischenwesen” is the first attempt to comprehensively document the artistic work of Halle painters<\/a> at the beginning of the 21st century. The focus here is on his works from the last five years, which were created using oil and acrylic paints on canvas or paper, and are presented in his book using our offset printing shop. You can also see architecture, landscape painting and glass art, to which Mr. Traub has also turned his attention in recent years.<\/p>\n\n

From layout to print result<\/h3>\n\n

The printing press is running, a special artist’s book is in the making. The content sheets were printed using offset printing on the Speedmaster XL 106-5+Lack press from Heidelberg. Before we started, however, we made brief arrangements with our employees to ensure that the desired result was achieved. We started with straight printing. Nowadays, the term straight printing refers to the side that is printed first. Then we continued with the back pressure. This term is used for printing on the reverse side of paper printed on one side. Not only were the content sheets printed by us using offset printing, but the cover for the book was also produced in color on the Speedmaster SM74-5+Lack. It was important to Mr. Traub that the color scheme of the printing press matched that of his works on canvas.<\/p>\n\n

Trust is good, but so is control. Mr. Traub checks the situation here. Is everything in the right place? To do this, he uses a thread counter – a measuring magnifier with three to twelve times magnification.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n

From print approval to the end product<\/h3>\n\n

To ensure that the end product is exactly what you want, we work with different processing and finishing options<\/a> in our bookbindery. We wanted to take Mr. Traub, again accompanied by Mr. Lux (graphic designer), along with us and show him how his book is bound. <\/p>\n\n
