The publication “Lichtungen 2015-2025” documents an extraordinary art project in Saxony-Anhalt. Over a period of ten years, new stained glass windows were created in several churches of the Evangelical Church of Anhalt – designed by contemporary artists. Published by the regional church in cooperation with Imhof Verlag, the book combines art-historical contributions, detailed image documentation and architectural contexts. The aim is to make the diversity of artistic positions visible and to allow readers to experience the tension between tradition and the present in sacred spaces. The work is aimed at both specialists and readers interested in culture and offers a well-founded overview of a remarkable long-term project.
Content and authorship of the work “Lichtungen 2015-2025”
The book “Lichtungen 2015-2025” offers more than just a documentation of completed projects. It provides insights into the artistic processes, the thematic concepts and the collaboration between art, the community and heritage conservation. In addition to large-format photographs of the realized glass works, the publication contains accompanying texts on the participating church spaces as well as articles that classify the project from an art historical and theological perspective.
In addition to the artists, representatives of the Evangelical Church of Anhalt, who have been involved in the project from the very beginning, also have their say. The publication was produced in editorial cooperation with experts from the fields of art history, architecture and church building. The result is a work that not only shows finished works, but also reveals the context in which they were created and the special features of contemporary sacred spatial art.
Equipment and technical implementation
The high-quality workmanship of the book “Lichtungen 2015-2025” supports the publication’s claim to be a durable and visually appealing work. The volume was produced as a half-linen edition with a green linen spine that is color-coordinated with the theme. A light-colored embossing in the spine area ensures a discreet but easily legible title design. The cover is also finished with partial UV varnish, creating targeted gloss effects that emphasize individual graphic elements and give the cover a noticeable depth.
Offset printing is used inside – chosen to reproduce the photographic images of the stained glass with high color brilliance and fine detail. The printed works thus appear color-intensive and clear without losing any of their naturalness. The thread stitching ensures a pleasant opening feel – an important feature for an illustrated book that is frequently leafed through and used intensively. The design is rounded off by a green ribbon marker, which matches the color and material of the linen spine. Design and workmanship are visibly intertwined here.
